Relief accounts for "Haiti's Children" have been established at local Wachovia, Compass, and Regions banks. Donations can be made at local bank branches and will be used by Volunteers of America Southeast to aid the children in Haiti. 100% of all donations will be used to directly aid those in need.

We recently shipped critical medical supplies to Haiti by air. On Saturday, March 6th volunteers from Televox Software will help organize, label, and package supplies in a 40-foot shipping container with everything from medical items and baby diapers to tents and generators. This shipment will be loaded into another container on Monday, March 15 to be taken to Miami and placed aboard a vessel provided by Friendships International. The container is being provided and transported by the Modular Building Institute (MBI). MBI and Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc (ABC) are also donating eleven additional containers that will be filled with supplies. Volunteers from Cooperative Baptist Fellowship (CBF) will distribute these supplies to the children of Haiti. Once the supplies are distributed, the containers will be converted to living quarters for volunteers, temporary housing for families, or emergency buildings for health clinics. MBI and ABC are partnering with Volunteers of America Southeast to provide one additional containers refitted into temporary housing for homeless families in Haiti.

Volunteers of America Southeast also has an additional employee, Ron Emrich, on the ground right now in Haiti. He has met with the Prime Minister and is working out logistics for placement of housing and clinics.

How many organizations does it take to get medical supplies to Haiti?  Or a better question, how many organizations can work together to meet a critical need?  In the case of delivering almost $100,000 in medical supplies to the people of Haiti, the answer is seven. New Orleans Medical Mission Services donated the supplies to Catholic Charities who sought a partner that could get the supplies to HaitiCooperative Baptist Fellowship accepted the supplies, Demo Diva Demolition Company transported them to Second Harvest’s warehouse, where Volunteers of America Southeast picked them up and transported them to Miami to be shipped to Haiti by Friendships International. It is amazing how much good can happen when we work together.

Shortly after the Haitian earthquake, Brenda LeFer called Volunteers of America Southeast wanting to go to Haiti as a medical volunteer. She had experienced difficulties making connections with other organizations. With only the briefest of connections, she flew to Port au Prince and spent a week caring for critically injured individuals. Here is her story in her own words: Story/Pictures

(from Keith Ferguson, VOA Southeast): "I spoke with God's Littlest Angels Orphanage in Haiti today and they were on their way to meet the plane carrying Tetanus vaccines and other medical supplies sent from Mobile, AL on Monday. Thanks to the outpouring of kindness from people all over the United States, additional shipments of medical supplies are on their way from us as well."

Volunteers of America Southeast recently made arrangements for the travel of Dr. Harold Van der Zee to the earthquake ravaged areas of Haiti. Dr. Van der Zee and Diane Cotman, VOA Michigan Board of Directors, are demonstrating / teaching trauma relief techniques and administering homeopathic trauma treatments to the people of Haiti. These systems have had excellent results in other earthquake and hurricane areas. By teaching groups of women, the word will spread and the women will teach and treat their families and their friends. The Haitian children have been traumatized in multiple ways, so Dr. Van der Zee will be traveling to the orphanages teaching staff and treating children.

A local Ono Island Charity Tennis Tournament raised 600 dollars for Haiti's Children today, and, along with other monies being gathered by Dr. Paul Glisson, will be used to buy antibiotics and other emergency medical supplies for God's Littles Angels Orphanage in Haiti. The air-conduits we have arranged into either Port au Prince or Cap Haitien appear to be air-tight now and ready for our use.

Relief Efforts for the Orphanage Moving Forward:

During the last couple of days, Volunteers of America Southeast has secured a partnership with God's Littlest Children orphanage in Petionville, Haiti ... approximately 3 miles from downtown Port-au-Prince. The effort will be identified as "Haiti's Children". Nurses at the orphanage sent us a list of the most urgently needed items for the children and people in the surrounding area (see below). We are also working with a large, local news agency, WALA Fox10, and the Mobile County Public School System to begin collecting these items for shipment to Haiti. Springhill Toyota in Mobile is hosting a donation drive on Friday the 29th from 10am - 3pm. We have an outlet for shipping right here from the Gulf Coast and are awaiting final plans for shipping the supplies. Please call Ron Emrich at 251-421-0094 to make donation arrangements for supplies, or donate online from the right of this page. 100% of your donations will be used to provide relief and ongoing help for Haiti's Children.
